ORDERING BOARDS

When ordering a
custom board, there are several factors to keep in mind:
1)
What is the right size
board for you? Your height,
weight, skill level and type of wave determine the size of your board.
2)
What type of shape is
right for you? This is
determined by how and where you want to surf it. You don’t want a narrow
board for small waves. It is nice to have a board for small days and
another one for when the waves are good. You should also think about what
type of fin set-up you want. If you walk your board a lot you probably
want a 2+1. If you mainly ride the tail you might want a tri-fin. It’s
good to try a lot of different types of boards to see what works best for
you. So if your friend has something that looks good ask to try it.
3)
What type of art design
do you want? Art costs money,
so the more elaborate the art, the more expensive the board. Airbrush is
cheaper and lighter than tints and pigments. In time, an airbrushed board
will fade. Tints and pigment’s (adding color to the resin) will add a
little weight to your board, but they will hold their color way longer.
The cost of a tint or pigment will be a little more and you are limited by
the type of designs you can do. With airbrushing, you can do almost
anything. Again, that’s where your budget comes into play.
What
type of finish do I want?
There are two different finishes to choose from: sand finish or gloss
polish. A sand finish is cheaper and lighter, better for high performance
surfing. A gloss polish is stronger and shinier, but costs more and is a
little heavier. This is a higher end finish.
